Adrian Breeman: Before we talk about anything else, what's the latest on Jeff?
Valium: Jeff is fine and seems to be as annoying as he's always been, so, I assume that means he's gonna live!
AB: He and guitarist Burton Gans recently became official memebrs of the band?
V: Jeff McManus and Burton Gans are "official" members of the band: both received a certificate of confirmation, a lifetime supply of urinal cakes and the keys to a nifty new car!
AB: How did you find them?
V: We found Jeff through our Brooklyn connection and found Burton through an ad in the Village Voice (See, Voice classifieds really DO work!)
AB: How's the new album coming along?
V: The recording is set to begin within the next two weeks and in comparison to the first album, this one's gonna kick some major league hiney!!
AB: Is the recording process any different now that you're on a larger label?
V: The recording process is really not affected in any way by what goes on outside the studio, as far as we're concerned. More money or no money, we always find a way to make sure we put out a quality product, because neither Josh nor the band would allow us to produce a piece of garbage.
AB: I heard a rumor that someone from Atlantic announced new title over AOL without the band's consent?
V: Yeah, someone leaked (no pun intended!) out the title, but, there's nothing written in stone that that's the final say on that ... we have a few other ideas to toy with still..
AB: What can we expect the album's layout and artwork to look like?
V: You can expect the artwork to be exactly the opposite from whatever the music business execs would want us to have: I'm sure everyone will hate what I come up with, but, tough! You can also expect miles and miles of sarcasm (of course!).
AB: With all the talk of the band selling out, does the new album represent a different style than Number One?
V: The style of the album will be quite different. First off, the songs are different, because we have two new bandmembers with different styles and ideas, so they bring a new and different dimension to the music. Also, the writing style is changing: Much more melody and I have a lot more vocals to do this time. We're maturing and so is our sound, but we all feel very strongly and very positive, (believe it or not!),about the material, and that really is the most important thing, anyway ...
AB: How soon can we see the band on the road again?
V: You can be sure that we'll be touring as soon as this record is out, because we are all very sick of being home and can't wait to get the Hell out of town! Yes, we'd like to (finally) get a tour with Type O Negative ... it's just so BIZARRE that we haven't yet, isn't it? (hint hint)
AB: What were some of the higher points of touring the last few times around? The lower points?
V: The higher points of touring were the ones where I got close to passing out onstage, because I knew I had done a good job up there. Also, showers backstage, good food, limos and a hotel with room service and a swimming pool don't hurt either! :)The lower one was the one where we almost died on a prop plane in a lightning storm, going to Shreveport LA last summer. We almost went the "Rock Star Death Route" that day!
AB: What was Marilyn Manson like?
V: Marilyn Manson was very nice and friendly to me, so I have no complaints, really, except for the time he refused to take a photo with me unless I took off my shirt, so I literally told him to go fuck himself ... oh well ... he didn't miss much anyway.
AB: Which bands were cool? Which weren't?
V: All the bands we've tourwd with were really cool to us, except a few key members of the last band we went out with, but, you can't blame a whole band and crew for a couple of miserable people. I'll bet other bands say that about me ...
AB: How well did Number One do?
V: Number One did fairly well, but it would have been nice to get some attention in NYC, since we're from here, but no one in NYC seems to care much ... maybe this time around. New Yorkers are the toughest crowd to please!
AB: Do you think Number One will be a tough act to follow, with all of the praise it has received?
V: Number One won't be a tough act to follow, because the new songs are as strong as, if not stronger, than Number One ... I just hope I'm still as pissed off as I was back then!!
