Speaking of Pissed Off, here's my review of Brooklyn natives Pist-On's first release, Number One. The CD cover is a lovely piss yellow, with a cartoon of some guy pissing on the front cover, and a poster of yellow water that might just also be urine. Oh yeah and there's a quote by Nieztche about pissing on the world and it pissing back on you. So, what else is there to this band besides an obsession with body fluids and golden showers? Well, they have this hot chick for a bass player and that's always cool, I mean just look at White Zombie, but they also have a unique style. Their first single that I've heard, "Grey Flap," is a slow, easy-to-get-into cut, that reminds me a bit of Type O. Singer/guitarist Henry Font has one of the more "unique" voices in rock, sounding something like a screeching, well, I really don't know, but trust me, you'll never confuse these guys (and girl) with anyone else. The lyrics to the chorus will get stuck in your head, "Excuse me if I'm wrong / But I need some encouraging / Thank you for being so bold."

The rest of the album shows that Pist-On can play a number of styles and diverse song types, fast rockers, slow numbers, and cool guitar solos. Also, the songs themselves feature some pretty insightful lyrics (yo, don't go looking for messages or anything, they just sound really cool). This is a metal band with some guts too, I mean, when was the last time you saw Pantera cover a MORRISEY (Christ Almighty) tune from his days with The Smiths ( "Shoplifters of the World Unite" 1987) and manage to make it a fun punk-style item. KILO called these guys "the next big thing" more than once, and I think they might be right. Gods willing, we could be on the verge of a heavy metal comeback. One can dream. (*NOTE I think Hed and I are the first to review this CD on the Web, so now you can say you heard about 'em before anybody else and show everyone just how cool you are.) Recommended for those looking for something new and different, and those into finding cool, obscure bands.
